The Village Story

it all starts with a village

Village Preschool has a rich history as a cooperative play school that has been around since 1955. Our school was created by parents in Southwest Portland who came together to form a community where their children could grow and play together and parents could maintain meaningful involvement in their children’s early learning. Over the years, the school moved to Lake Oswego (then known as Village Play School of Lake Oswego), before returning to Southwest Portland for the last 30 years.

Currently, we are located in the West Portland United Methodist Church. While the church rents the school its space, Village Preschool is a secular organization and is not affiliated with the church.

PCPO

Village is also a member of the Parent Child Preschools of Oregon (PCPO), which offers support in early childhood education of parents and teachers in co-operative preschool communities, as well as to help keep the school up to date on co-operative preschool information.
