Parent Involvement

stronger together

Family involvement is integral to the success of a cooperative preschool.  Each school year, parents assist in the development of their children via a few methods of volunteering:

  • Hold a job/position within the school

  • Fulfill Parent Help shifts, and provide a fresh fruit or vegetable as part of snack on those days

  • Attend five required membership meetings a year

  • Fulfill a $500 fundraising requirement per family, which includes participation in our annual fundraising silent auction and dinner event

  • Attend two of our four work parties

  • Serve as a driver and/or chaperone for at least two field trips (Senior Class only).

jobs

Families are responsible for holding a school job during the school year that helps with the operation of the school. Examples include Equipment and Supplies Coordinator, Fundraising, Laundry, Marketing, Membership Chair, Treasurer and Tuition Coordinator. We take into account each family’s job preferences made in their application form, as well as the needs of the school when making family job assignments.

parent helping

Families can plan for grown ups of their choosing to Parent Help in the classroom 2-3x/month, but the specific number of shifts depends on enrollment. Families sign up quarterly for Parent Help shifts based on their availability. The school’s insurance does not cover siblings and as such, parents are asked to make childcare arrangements for their Parent Help shifts. This also helps ensure parents are able to engage in their duties and be available to assist in the classroom to their fullest ability.

Grandparents, nannies, or other caregivers may work Parent Help shifts in the classroom. All adults are required to complete and pass a background check.  Training for parent/caregiver helpers is provided.
